The Quran names one of the communities to which the prophet Shu'ayb was sent as "the Companions of the Thicket" (Ashab al-Aykah) (al-Hijr 15:78; ash-Shu'ara 26:176; Sad 38:13; Qaf 50:14). The account in Surat ash-Shu'ara closely resembles the warnings about fair measure and weight addressed to the people of Midian.
Commentators differ on whether the people of al-Aykah were the same as the people of Midian or a separate community. Some classical geographers recorded al-Aykah as an old name of Tabuk; others regard it as part of the Midian region. The main marker shows Tabuk and the alternative marker shows Midian.
